Milwaukee residents find homes through City program

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- For many people, owning a home is high on their wish list. Now, the City of Milwaukee is making that hope tangible for many residents.

Potential buyers flooded the Italian Center on Saturday, March 29th for The City of Milwaukee's Homeownership Fair. Neighborhoods, including Havenwoods and Harambee, were featured with homes ready for purchase.

"What we are trying to do is trying to rebuild the neighborhoods and those neighborhoods that have been hardest hit with foreclosures," said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. "You can get families in them, you can get back on tax roll, you can make it more productive for the neighborhood."

Realtors, homeowner specialists and lenders were all on hand to help those looking to make a purchase, and those showing interest were thankful for the valuable help available to them.

"Most of this information I don't know. I was considering a VA loan and I'm actually pushing to do something else, only because of the programs I was told about. I was not going to find this info online or be told word of mouth," said Erica Herrera.
