Book giveaway benefits Milwaukee non-profits, schools

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- Half Price Books gave away more than 7,500 books as part of their "Half Pint Library Program” on Tuesday, April 1st. The giveaway took place at Wisconsin warehouse in Wauwatosa.

Representatives and volunteers from schools, neighborhood drop centers, homeless shelters, and literacy groups stood in line to get a box or two of children's and young adult books.

Books were donated by people from the community, and then matched by the book store.

"I think the number 60 is a great number for us today, but it’s also an indication of the amount of need that’s out there so this is a great event. The City of Milwaukee and its surrounding areas continues to be very generous in giving their books and supporting us so we are thrilled to be able to give these away today,” said Joe Desch, District Manager with Half Price Books.

Throughout the year stores do donations on a store by store basis, so organizations or groups interested should contact their nearest Milwaukee Half Price Books location.
