Mother accused of trying to kill sons with overdose of medication

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A 26-year-old Milwaukee woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly tried to kill her two sons with an overdose of medication. The accused is Fallon Thomas.

Thomas is facing two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. Thomas made her initial appearance in court Wednesday morning, April 2nd.

According to the criminal complaint, Thomas called 911 on March 26th around 8:51 p.m. and reported that she intentionally gave her two children, ages 7 and 4, too much medication and "was sending her children up to God."

The complaint indicates Thomas gave each of her sons 15 pills.

"It hurts because I know her and the children," said Rasheed El, who runs Overcomers Temple One. "Her and her children seemed nice, happy. I see her every morning taking them to school like a normal mother and children."

When Milwaukee police arrived on scene, they located the two children sleeping in a bed. Officials say both children appeared very lethargic -- and were rushed to the hospital.

While in the ambulance, the 7-year-old allegedly told authorities that prior to bed, his mother "gave them some tea," adding "the tea was gross," according to the complaint.

The complaint indicates that officials located over 25 pills inside the kitchen garbage can. The pills had been broken open and the contents of the capsules emptied out. Officials also located a pan of tea on the stove.

The emptied blue and white capsules of medication was identified as Ziprasidone Hydrochloride -- an anti-psychotic.

Both children were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and were treated for intentional poisoning. The judge on Wednesday said both children are still experiencing severe health issues as a result of the incident.

Thomas' bail was set at $75,000 cash. If convicted on all counts, Thomas faces up to 120 years in prison.
