Coffey sentenced to 1 year in jail in wrong-way driving case

MILWAUKEE (WITI) --  A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Patrick Coffey on Thursday, April 3rd, to one year in the House of Correction plus another four years of probation. Coffey may serve his time at the Waukesha County Jail.

Coffey is the former President of Student Affairs at MSOE. He faced several charges for driving the wrong way on I-94/43 for almost 15 miles in August 2013. DOT cameras captured part of the dangerous ride. Police say Coffey’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

On Monday, January 27th, he pleaded guilty to OWI — his third offense, and second-degree recklessly endangering safety.

He was sentenced to six months for his OWI -- but he was also ordered to concurrently serve 12 months of his probation regarding his conviction for recklessly endangering safety.
