GREENFIELD (WITI) — Greenfield police have announced the arrest of a 74-year-old Milwaukee man — accused of carrying a handgun into Whitnall Middle School on Thursday, April 3rd.

It happened just before 5:00 p.m.

Police say a custodian reported he saw the man seated at a table waiting to pick up a student — and observed a handgun in a holster on the man’s hip.

An investigation by the School Resource Office and review of surveillance video determined the suspect was armed with a handgun on school premises.

He was taken into custody and charges are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

The handgun was taken as evidence and is in police custody.

Police have determined the man did not have any ill intent, and do not believe students and staff were in danger.
