New details expected Monday in Berit Beck cold case

FOND DU LAC CO. (WITI) -- The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office has announced a press conference set for Monday, April 7th to discuss recent developments in the 1990 abduction/homicide of 18-year-old Berit Beck.

Beck left her Sturtevant home headed for Appleton on July 17th, 1990 for a computer training class.

She never made it there.

Beck's van was found in a Fond du Lac parking lot two days later.

Approximately five-and-a-half weeks later, her body was found in rural Fond du Lac County.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff's officials were able to develop some leads in the case -- but no arrests were made.

Beck's murder case then went cold.

Now, Fond du Lac County Sheriff's deputies have gathered evidence that may incriminate a 60-year-old trucker from Kenosha.

A Fond du Lac Reporter report says the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office says a new analysis suggests the trucker was in Beck's van.

Deputies say they have tangible evidence that links a primary suspect to the inside of the van.

A search warrant says investigators wanted photos of the suspect's hands, one of which is deformed. The photos are being analyzed against other evidence.

On Monday, we are expecting to learn more -- as Fond du Lac County Sheriff's officials, along with representatives from the Fond du Lac County District Attorney's Office are expected to brief the media.

FOX6 News spoke with Beck's mother on Sunday. She says after all these years, she may finally get some closure.

"It's there constantly in the back of your mind. There's daily reminders. It affects your life so much -- your health, because it's there all the time," Diane Beck said.

Diane Beck knows the name of the primary suspect in the case.

"I'm hoping that we're going to be able to put some closure on this, and maybe then we'll really be able to get on with things. It's the strangest feeling because, you know, we've been there done that before -- but it's different this time," Beck said.

Diane Beck says she is optimistic the family will finally be able to move forward.

"You know I haven't allowed myself to go there. So I haven't talked about it or thought about it. That'll just be so different. I can't imagine. But as a family it will be wonderful for all of us," Beck said.
