Group of cab drivers urges Milwaukee to lift cap on taxis
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A group of taxi drivers and those who want to become taxi drivers rallied in Milwaukee on Monday, April 7th.
They want the city of Milwaukee to completely lift a cap on the number of taxi cabs in Milwaukee.
In November of 2013, the city of Milwaukee voted to add 100 taxi cabs to ensure better service.
A lottery was then done to give out those permits.
The group rallying in Milwaukee on Monday says this wasn't done fairly.
"The 100 numbers they gave out as a lottery was not a lottery -- was a selective people, other people who live in different states -- a lot of cab drivers who's been driving -- some of them 10 years 15 didn't get a number," Ishmael Haroun said.
More than 1,700 submitted applications for a permit.
