Mark Phelps joins Marquette coaching staff

MILWAUKEE (AP) — New Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski has added former Drake coach Mark Phelps to his coaching staff.

Phelps was added as an assistant Wednesday. He joins former Duke star Chris Carrawell, who was hired Monday for Wojciechowski's first-year staff.

Phelps has 18 years of experience in Division I. He guided Drake to a pair of postseason appearances and 77 wins during his five seasons with the Bulldogs.

He comes to Marquette after spending the 2013-14 season as an assistant at Missouri.

Wojciechowski took over as Golden Eagles head coach last week after Buzz Williams left to take the same job at Virginia Tech. One holdover from Williams' staff, veteran assistant Jerry Wainwright, remains at Marquette.
