Man carried out of home on Taylor Ave. in Racine after fire breaks out

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine Fire officials say a man had to be carried out of a home on Taylor Avenue in Racine on Sunday, April 13th after a fire broke out.

Fire officials say the injured man was found on the third floor of the three-story structure.

"Carried him out. Like, he was limp -- like he had no life. Sad. He's somebody's son, child, somebody," Keith Mosby said.

He was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.

"I came out and looked to the left and there was smoke everywhere," neighbor Sharee Robinson said.

Jamal Johnson and his fiance Tymeika Bolden live on the first floor of the residence. They say the fire broke out on the third floor -- but say they weren't home when the fire started. They were at a birthday party Sunday afternoon when a family member noticed photos of the fire posted online.

"We thought she was playing. We actually looked at the pictures and it was our house. All we seen was the top part where the chimney was just lit up with fire," Bolden said.

Firefighters allowed Johnson and Bolden to collect whatever belongings they could -- but they'll have to find somewhere else to stay.

Officials say a firefighter suffered an injury to his wrist. He was treated and released.

Officials are working to determine the cause of this fire.
