Milwaukee Brewers win nine in a row, sweep Pittsburgh Pirates
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, April 13th swept the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 and won their ninth game in a row!
Kyle Lohse came within one out of a complete game Sunday in the Crew's 4-1 win over the Pirates.
At 10-2, the Brewers are off to their best start since going 13-0 to start the 1987 season. This is Milwaukee's longest winning streak since a nine-game string last April.
Lohse (2-1) gave up four hits and struck out nine in 8 2-3 innings. He fanned five straight in the seventh and eighth innings.
Lohse was pulled with two outs in the ninth after giving up a single to Andrew McCutchen. Will Smith struck out Pedro Alvarez on three pitches to record his first career save.
Charlie Morton (0-1) pitched seven innings as the Pirates lost for the fourth time in five games.

On Saturday, the Brewers defeated the Pirates 3-2.
Carlos Gomez hit a leadoff homer, and Jonathan Lucroy drove in the tie-breaking run with an eighth-inning single.
Gomez got Milwaukee started with a 432-foot drive to center field off Edinson Volquez, and Khris Davis scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 in the second.
Pittsburgh tied it in the third on Starling Marte’s groundout and Travis Snider’s single, ending Yovani Gallardo’s scoreless streak to start the season at 14 2-3 innings.
Lucroy singled to right in the eighth to drive in Ryan Braun, who beat the throw to the plate.
Jim Henderson (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the win. Francisco Rodriguez got his fourth save in four attempts.
On Friday, the Brewers defeated the Pirates 4-2.
On Monday, April 14th, the Brewers go for 10 in a row, when they face off against the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park!
