MPD: 3 officers injured after suspect "spit on, punched, kicked & bit them"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Three Milwaukee police officers were injured in an attack by a suspect that occurred around noon on Monday, April 21st near 34th and Center.

Officers were dispatched to a report of family trouble near 34th and Center. There, officers learned of a male suspect (20 years of age) on scene -- possibly involved in a crime unrelated to the family trouble.

While attempting to take this man into custody, police say the man spit on, punched, kicked, and bit officers.

The officers were able to use pepper spray on the man and take him into custody.

The officers injured include a male officer with approximately 14 years of service, a male officer with approximately 19 years of service and a female officer with approximately 25 years of service.

Two of them had to be taken to the hospital for medical treatment. They have been released.

The incident and arrest of the suspect remain under investigation.

We are told the 20-year-old suspect in this case remains in custody.
