HELP ON THE WAY: More Red Cross volunteers head to storm-ravaged areas

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Those affected by severe storms this week will soon have more help from Wisconsin.

Six American Red Cross volunteers left Mitchell International Airport on Thursday afternoon, May 1st.

The group includes a Sussex woman on her very first trip, and a Germantown nurse making her 20th trip!

The group of volunteers will provide food, shelter and medical care to those in need.

"The first time I went, you don't know what to expect. The seventh time -- still don't konw what to expect, but I know I'm going to be doing it with the best people on the planet, and most wonderful people. So whatever it is, we are doing it together," Mickey Tice said.

The six volunteers are flying to separate areas, including Little Rock, Arkansas, Baxter Springs, Kansas, and Mississippi.

The severe storm system spawned tornadoes and other severe storms since Sunday, claiming at least 38 lives in Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida.

The biggest threat now appears to be flooding from heavy rains.
