Violent Mother's Day in Milwaukee, with second fatal shooting reported

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred near 28th and Kilbourn Avenue on Sunday afternoon, May 11th.

This shooting happened just before 12:30 p.m.

Police say several shots were fired at a 33-year-old man. Life-saving measures by Milwaukee police and Milwaukee Fire officials were unsuccessful -- and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office was called out to the scene.

One witness tells FOX6 News she saw the man standing outside just minutes before the shooting -- saying he looked like he was just out enjoying the fresh air.

"It was just a couple of people standing out there with him. He was just enjoying the air," the witness said.

A few minutes later, the witness says she heard multiple shots fired -- estimating more than a dozen.

"I was just in shock. When I went in the house, I heard like, gunshots. At least 10 to 13 shots," the witness said.

Police say a car pulled up alongside the man, and say someone got out and fired shots.

That individual then got back into the car, and it sped away.

"It sounded like a grenade went off. The shots were back-to-back like pop, pop, pop, pop -- like non-stop. I couldn't believe it was him because I just seen him!" the witness said.

The victim's family was on scene -- including his mother, and the conversation among neighbors was that they could not believe something like this could happen on Mother's Day.

Neighbors say they know the victim by his nickname "Ghost."

A man who says he's the victim's cousin says word spread fast about the shooting on social media.

"It really hurts. It really hurts. He was a good person. Always honest and trustworthy. It ain't hit me yet but it's gonna hit me. That was my guy," the victim's cousin said.

Milwaukee police say they do not believe this shooting to be a random incident.

This is the second fatal shooting to occur on Mother's Day in Milwaukee.

Early Sunday morning, Milwaukee police say the 47-year-old owner of Big C's Blues Bar near 12th and Hadley was shot and killed.

The shooting happened at the bar, around 2:30 a.m.

Police are actively searching for a person of interest in this case -- but no one is in custody at this time.
