BUSTED: Teen arrested after stolen phone rings in backpack

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police arrested a teenage suspect involved in the armed robbery of two teenage victims. The crime happened just after 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10th.

Officers were called to the neighborhood near Chase and Rosedale on the city's south side for a report of an armed robbery. The two victims, a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy from Milwaukee, told police a suspect approached them, demanded their phones and threatened to shoot them. The suspect stole three phones and cash and fled on foot.

Responding officers noticed a person matching the description of the suspect near 9th and Dakota a short time later and stopped to interview him. The officers called the phone number of one of the victim’s stolen phones and the phone illuminated and rang inside the suspect’s backpack.

The suspect, a 16-year-old Milwaukee male, was taken into custody and faces armed robbery charges.

The case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
