MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Can YOU help the FBI nab a serial bank robber? He's known for wearing a painter's mask that hides his face, but officials believe someone out there knows who he is. The FBI believes this serial bank robber is aggressive and dangerous.

The FBI Milwaukee Division, the Milwaukee Police Department and the South Milwaukee Police Department say the man is responsible for the following bank robberies:

  • April 23rd, 2014 — TCF Bank on N. 54th Street in Milwaukee
  • April 26th, 2014 — TCF Bank on W. Oklahoma Avenue in Milwaukee
  • May 5th, 2014 — TCF Bank on N. 54th Street in Milwaukee
  • May 11th, 2014 — Tri City National Bank on S. Chicago Avenue in South Milwaukee

Officials say all of the banks targeted by this suspect were located inside grocery stores -- but they don't know why.

The suspect is described as a black man, 6’2″ to 6’3″ tall, with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a North Face jacket, gloves — and a white or blue painter’s mask.

In each case, the suspect presented a demand note and climbed, threatened or attempted to climb over the bank’s security glass counter area to access the bank.

In one of the robberies, the suspect displayed a black semi-automatic handgun.

"He's fairly unpredictable and the unpredictability is what makes him more violent because you don't necessarily know what the next step is going to be. If he doesn't get the response he wants in a relatively short period of time, he takes the next aggressive step. He's willing to jump over the counter to obtain what he's looking for," FBI Supervisor Special Agent Robert Botsch said.

The FBI says it is strange that the suspect is targeting banks inside grocery stores because the risk is higher he'll be detected.

"Bank robbers generally like to get in and out as quickly as possible in order to be able to conceal his identity," Botsch said.

Even though it's hard to make out the face beneath the mask, the FBI says someone must know who he is.

"People have a tendency to talk. Generally speaking, most criminals are not good at keeping their identities concealed," Botsch said.

nobody thought a dude putting his foot up on the counter at a bank in a grocery store was suspicious?

Install stores and banks with metal detectors at the enterances. Enforce no hat or hood wearing like they do in schools. Also, strict background checks on the tellers. Inside info is being leaked out on the lack of security for TCF banks. TCF is the lowest on the totem pole as far as banks are concerned and I feel their hiring policies may also follow suit.

well penny the first idea you have will never work people coming and going out of store there’s plenty on metal objects on everybody you would have a line out the door like being at an airport and no hats and come on we live in wisconsin..not goin happen…but your second suggestion I agree on a bank teller could be in on it and has happened so best to investigate that way…

Metal detectors in stores? Really? Then they won’t bring a gun in anyhow and won’t do a quick 20 second robbery and out? Right…..I’ve been in law enfocement for 20 years and on our Tactical Team for 10. I’d much rather not have metal detectors so off duty cops (and CCW permit holders) who carry can still get in to stop a threat. Best action is for the off duty to let the suspect leave, follow them outside, then call for assistance, etc but what if the suspect starts shooting inside and needs to be stopped immediately? Then the perp is the only one armed and everyone gets shot until he feels like stopping or leaving…..I and many of my team members carry off duty in most places where mass shootings have taken place (malls, restaurants, etc) and have the training to deal with these idiots. We may save your life some day….yes, even if you try to prevent us from doing it with idealistic liberal ideas.

Put the bank counters in the back of the stores like where they put the milk so it’s impossible to make a quick getaway!

why not here is an ovious and novel idea bring back bank guards. when I was younger all banks had bank guards they were usually retired police officers if I remember very few robberies until they started eliminating guards then robberies increased at banks.

Allow the tellers to have guns close by and shoot these thugs in the head! So sick of criminals destroying our communities

  • Joe

My solution have a stun gun faced at each teller window so when being held up teller presses button and hits them with it until gets known then change it…
