MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Can YOU help the FBI nab a serial bank robber? He's known for wearing a painter's mask that hides his face, but officials believe someone out there knows who he is. The FBI believes this serial bank robber is aggressive and dangerous.
The FBI Milwaukee Division, the Milwaukee Police Department and the South Milwaukee Police Department say the man is responsible for the following bank robberies:
- April 23rd, 2014 — TCF Bank on N. 54th Street in Milwaukee
- April 26th, 2014 — TCF Bank on W. Oklahoma Avenue in Milwaukee
- May 5th, 2014 — TCF Bank on N. 54th Street in Milwaukee
- May 11th, 2014 — Tri City National Bank on S. Chicago Avenue in South Milwaukee
Officials say all of the banks targeted by this suspect were located inside grocery stores -- but they don't know why.
The suspect is described as a black man, 6’2″ to 6’3″ tall, with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a North Face jacket, gloves — and a white or blue painter’s mask.
In each case, the suspect presented a demand note and climbed, threatened or attempted to climb over the bank’s security glass counter area to access the bank.
In one of the robberies, the suspect displayed a black semi-automatic handgun.
"He's fairly unpredictable and the unpredictability is what makes him more violent because you don't necessarily know what the next step is going to be. If he doesn't get the response he wants in a relatively short period of time, he takes the next aggressive step. He's willing to jump over the counter to obtain what he's looking for," FBI Supervisor Special Agent Robert Botsch said.
The FBI says it is strange that the suspect is targeting banks inside grocery stores because the risk is higher he'll be detected.
"Bank robbers generally like to get in and out as quickly as possible in order to be able to conceal his identity," Botsch said.
Even though it's hard to make out the face beneath the mask, the FBI says someone must know who he is.
"People have a tendency to talk. Generally speaking, most criminals are not good at keeping their identities concealed," Botsch said.
