Drivers deal with ponding, huge hail, but "at least it's not snow"

UNION GROVE (WITI) -- Storms rolled through southeastern Wisconsin on Monday, May 12th -- some of them even triggering a Tornado Warning. The Tornado Warning was issued for Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties around 4:45 p.m. -- and one of the areas in the bullseye was Union Grove, which was hit hard by these storms.

The clouds approached -- dark and ominous -- and then came the pounding rain across Racine and Kenosha counties.

Windshield wipers fought with sheets of water for a glimpse of the road.

"Terrible. Driving in this rain sucks!" Katie Boehlen said.

Boehlen's drive in the rain was no easy task on Monday -- as she wasn't the only one on the road when the downpours hit.

"Pay attention to what you're doing. Stay away from other cars. The flooding and the hydroplaning is bad," Boehlen said.

Near Union Grove, the downpours Monday led to a rush of water -- with ponding in some areas.

"Just stay home if you don't have to go anywhere," Boehlen said.

Law enforcement officials were on alert, as drivers dealt with the weather.

Boehlen tried to keep a positive attitude despite the challenges on Monday.

"We've been waiting for this right? It's spring. At least it's not snow!" Boehlen said.

There were also high-water worries in Milwaukee County on Monday in many areas -- such as Highway 45 and Center, where drivers were forced to go through pooling water under the overpass.

Storms were expected to continue through the night on Monday.

The rest of the week looks to be quieter weather-wise, with cooler temperatures.
