MORE gun violence in Milwaukee during "Ceasefire Week"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The message to end gun violence in Milwaukee is very clear, but it clearly isn't getting through. The Milwaukee Police Department is currently investigating two non-fatal shootings.

According to officials, the first incident occurred in the 3500 block of N. 19th St. on Friday, May 16th around 5:30 p.m. The motive of the shooting is unknown, but it sent a 24-year-old male to the hospital.

Officials say the second shooting came only a few hours later, around 8:45 p.m., in the 4000 block of N. 27th St. A 32-year-old male was shot after a tavern-related dispute and then transported to the hospital.

In both incidents, the victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries. There are no suspects in custody at this time for either shooting.

This is “Ceasefire Week” in the city of Milwaukee. “Ceasefire Week” runs through Sunday, May 18th — when Mayor Tom Barrett and other city leaders will mark “Ceasefire Sabbath.”
