Making connections: Job seekers meet with employers at Milwaukee Career Expo

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Ninety employers with over 1,800 jobs to fill connected with more than 1,000 job seekers on Thursday, May 22nd at the Milwaukee Career Expo, the third special recruiting event the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has sponsored at State Fair Park since 2012 to better match job seekers to jobs.

“The good jobs available at the Milwaukee Career Expo today are reflective of Wisconsin’s improving economy in the region and state,” Secretary Reggie Newson said. “Since December 2010, Wisconsin has created over 100,000 private-sector jobs, and with the investments that Governor Walker has made in workforce development, employers will have the skilled workers they need to expand operations and create more jobs.”

DWD began offering the special recruiting events three years ago with the first being the Milwaukee Manufacturing Career Expo at the State Fair Park Expo on May 10, 2012.

The expos are limited to employers with jobs available and to job seekers who register in advance and complete pre-screening steps with local Job Center staff to help them prepare for the event.

“This is our third Career Expo in Milwaukee, and it is especially exciting because we have 90 employers participating representing a wide variety of industries,” said Carol Burgett, DWD Job Service Director for the Milwaukee metro area.   “The companies at the expo today come from the manufacturing, financial services, health care, transportation, construction and technology industries to name a few.”

Employers participating in the expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. included Time Warner Cable, Aurora Health Care, Quad Graphics, US Bank, Children’s Hospital, Schneider National, We Energies, Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission and Manpower.
