Fatal accident: Greenfield man loses life in concrete mixing tower

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A 38-year-old Greenfield man lost his life in an industrial accident on Milwaukee's south side early Thursday morning, May 22nd.

It happened at a facility off S. Chase Avenue just after midnight.

We're told the man was working for Nuvo Construction. He was killed while making a repair in a concrete mixing tower.

As is standard practice in industrial accidents, OSHA has been notified.

Amanda Lee tells FOX6 News it was her older brother who was killed.

"We woke up to my mom screaming. My sister-in-law called my mom, and my fiance and I were sleeping," Lee said.

Lee tells us her brother, 38-year-old Stephen Rauth was killed.

"He did all this different concrete work. Like, he would use all the machines," Lee said.

Lee showed up at the scene with her fiance a short while after receiving the tragic news.

"I just found out an hour-and-a-half ago that my brother`s dead, so there`s not really much of a way to say how you feel I guess. It`s like an unexplainable feeling," Lee said.

The Milwaukee Fire Department tells FOX6 News Rauth was on a conveyor that feeds a hopper -- and was crushed.

He was unable to survive his injuries.

"Makes you wonder if he was in pain," Lee said.

Lee says her brother has worked for the Nuvo Construction company for the last five years.

"He worked for every single person in his family, not just his little personal family. No, he worked for his whole family. He was a good person all the way around," Lee said.

"He was an amazing father. He was a nice guy, kind-hearted. Had an amazing personality. I can`t believe this happened. Really can`t," Lee's fiance, Kyle Sewell said.

Rauth leaves behind his wife and three young children.

OSHA's investigation into this incident could take up to six months to complete.

OSHA tells FOX6 News Nuvo Construction has no history of OSHA violations.
