Fatal shooting: Police identify victim in incident near Shalom Center in Kenosha

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Kenosha police on Thursday, May 22nd identified the victim of a shooting that occurred near the Shalom Center in Kenosha on Wednesday afternoon, May 21st. 33-year-old Kavin Stewart of Kenosha was shot while sitting in a car.

On Wednesday, law enforcement officials were trying to determine whether Stewart shot himself -- or whether he was shot by someone else.

Police were conducting interviews with Stewart, and witnesses in the neighborhood.

Neighbors tell FOX6 News they heard one loud “bang,” and then saw a man bleeding in the street.

Neighbors say the man got right back into the vehicle and drove himself to the hospital.

Neighbors say a second man jumped out of the truck and took off running.

The shooting incident happened just before 1:30 p.m.

Kenosha police say Stewart arrived at Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center with a life-threatening injury to his leg.

He died at the hospital around 8:00 p.m.

Kenosha police say the investigation is ongoing.
