Rescued: Woman, two cats pulled from home after fire in Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- The Sheboygan Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire on Michigan Avenue Monday morning, May 26th.

When units arrived on scene, they were confronted by fire and dense, black smoke blowing out the back of the house.

Authorities say smoke had enveloped the first and second floors as well, leading to near-zero visibility for firefighters.

As other units arrived on scene, dispatch reported that there was a woman trapped in a second floor bedroom, unable to to exit the home.

Firefighters labored the east side of the building and rescued the occupant by bringing her out a second floor window.

Two cats were rescued as well.

The occupant was transported to Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

It took 23 firefighters approximately 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Crews remained on scene for over five hours.

No additional details have been released -- including the cause of the fire or the amount of damage sustained.
