Neighbors' tips lead to arrest of attempted burglary suspect

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say alert neighbors helped them arrest a teenage suspect for an attempted burglary.

Officers were dispatched to the neighborhood near 51st and Washington Blvd. around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28th. There was an apparent "entry in progress."

When the officers arrived, two neighbors told them they witnessed a teenager trying to break into an unoccupied home. When the suspect saw the witnesses, he fled on foot. The neighbors provided police with a description of the suspect and officers found the suspect near Hi-Mount and Garfield and took him into custody.

The suspect, a 14-year-old Milwaukee boy, confessed to the attempted burglary. He also told detectives he attempted to break into a separate garage earlier in the day.

The case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
