"Her life is in God's hands now:" 10-year-old Sierra Guyton pulled from life support

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- 10-year-old Sierra Guyton has been clinging to life at Children's Hospital since she was shot in the head while playing on the playground near 28th and Clarke on May 21st, and now, FOX6 News is learning Guyton is off of life support.

Sierra Guyton's family members say she has been removed from life support and is breathing on her own -- but they say they remain realistic about her future.

Guyton was shot feet from her home as she played on the playground. She was an innocent victim -- caught in the crossfire as two men engaged gunfire.

Family members say Guyton has been on life support since she was shot in the head.

Earlier this month, FOX6 News learned the bullets took the young girl's eyesight -- and she could not eat or breathe on her own.

On Wednesday, June 25th, just over a month since she was shot, family members gathered at Guyton's bedside as her parents made the difficult decision to take her off of life support.

While Guyton is breathing on her own, family spokesperson Tory Lowe tells FOX6 News the girl's life is in God's hands now.

Lowe says she may only have a few hours -- or days in her current state.

If she does manage to survive longer, Lowe says he worries about the quality of life she will have going forward.

The two men charged in this case -- 18-year-old Sylvester Lewis and 28-year-old Jamey Jackson will likely face amended charges if Guyton does not pull through.

Currently, 18-year-old Sylvester Lewis faces the following charges: one count of first-degree reckless injury (use of a dangerous weapon), one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety (use of a dangerous weapon), and possession of a firearm by a felon.

28-year-old Jamey Jackson is facing one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Lewis' next court date is set for October.

Jackson has a court date set for July 11th.
