Police: Motorcyclist sustains serious injuries to leg after rear-ending car

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- Mount Pleasant police responded to the intersection of Washington Avenue and Green Bay Road Tuesday, June 24th for reports of a motorcycle vs. car crash.

It happened around 5:19 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the operator of the motorcycle had serious injuries to his leg.

He is a 45-year-old man from Park Forest, Illinois.

The South Shore Fire Department transported the operator of the motorcycle  to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital and he was later transported by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital.

According to officials, the crash occurred when eastbound traffic on Washington Avenue was stopped to yield an emergency vehicle crossing the intersection. Police say the operator of the motorcycle did not stop as he approached the intersection -- causing him to rear-end a stopped car.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
