"It was unbearable! It was freezing cold:" Summerfest-goers happy it's warmed up after cold opening night

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Things were heating up at Henry Maier Festival Park on Thursday, June 26th, during Summerfest Day Two! It was quite the contrast to Wednesday's weather.

Summerfest-goers told FOX6 News Thursday's warm-up was certainly welcome!

This, as FOX6 spotted folks walking around the Summerfest grounds in jackets on Wednesday night.

"It is cooler by the lake," one Summerfest-goer said.

Sure, but Wednesday's weather during Summerfest wasn't just "cooler."

"Freezing! I was trying to find shelter, and blankets, and sweaters," McKeeva Moore said.

"It was unbearable! It was freezing cold," Nanna Peterson said.

In fact, it was cold and cloudy enough that inside Nanna Peterson's "Necessary Pieces" kiosk, there was a change in the pieces customers were demanding.

"It’s supposed to be “Summerfest,” and not “Winterfest," Peterson said.

But it was winter wear that was wanted!

"We were digging out our winter capes and stuff like that, that we had, and we sold a lot of leggings," Peterson said.

Leggings wouldn't cut it for Cindy Berglund.

"I’m from Minnesota, so I’m used to cold, but I brought a space heater along, and I was running it most of the day," Berglund said.

But what a wonderful difference a day makes!

"Oh, yeah! It lifts everybody’s spirits, a little bit," Berglund said.

Lifted spirits means lucrative sales.

"The sunshine always brings more money, and more people in to buy shades," McKeeva Moore said.

"Today, we sell more summer stuff because people will be willing to try on things," Peterson said.

But of course, there are some who can cope with cooler conditions.

"Perfect for cooking!" one Summerfest vendor said.

Others simply say...it could be worse.

"It's better than rain!" a Summerfest vendor said.
