WASHINGTON (WITI) — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a barn fire at 3745 Beaver Dam Road in the Town of Barton early Monday morning, June 30th.

When deputies arrived on scene, they observed a large wood barn completely ablaze, with the fire rapidly intensifying and spreading to two adjacent outbuildings.

The West Bend Fire Department requested assistance from the Fillmore, Jackson, Slinger, Kewaskum, Allenton, and Newburg Fire Departments to aid at the scene. The barn contained hay, tools, and several pieces of old farm machinery.

The residence at the property was not affected by the fires. Beaver Dam Road between Wildwood Road and Kettle View Drive was closed for approximately four hours to facilitate firefighting operations.

The fire is being investigated by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause of fire is not known at this time — however a neighbor witnessed a lightning strike in the general area.

The barn, its contents and the two smaller outbuildings are considered a total loss, but no dollar estimates are available at this time.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
