FLORIDA (WITI) — A Florida woman was arrested last week — after police say she left her dog “Waldo” inside her hot car while she shopped at Walmart…for 13 hours!

WPEC in West Palm Beach, Florida reports the deceased dog was discovered by another Walmart shopper.

There was reportedly no food or water left for the dog — and even though a window was partially cracked, temperatures rose — resulting in the dog’s death.

Police say 49-year-old Cassaundra Rasmussen was inside the Walmart store — apparently “browsing” for 13 hours.

WPEC reports the woman told police she “forgot” the dog was in the car.

Rasmussen has been charged with a misdemeanor count of cruelty towards animals.

I am angry this is happening in our town lake geneva wi we have a man that works at our local McDonald’s and leaves his dog in the truck. For Example : yesterday July 7th it was 84 degrees this dog was In the truck for at least 6 hrs. Windows rolled up.
I called our local police and they said they have had calls on this before. Then said he is parked in the shade and he checks on him often. So maybe they should put the owner in the truck for hours and see if he likes it.
I think this is abuse. Wishing someone would do something.

If you see this dog in the truck again, please note the date and times. Document everything. Take pictures if you have a smart phone. Then call the Walworth County humane officer Keith Mulhollon at 262-741-4400. Here is a listing of all humane officers in Wisconsin too. That poor dog does not have a voice. You have to be his. Don’t let that poor dog suffer just because the police officer has said that it’s “okay” because the car is “parked in the shade” an that the owner “checks on him often. Really?? I am sure that McDonald’s gives him extra breaks just to check on his dog.

Dogs can die in a hot car in as little as 30 minutes. This guy should be arrested for animal cruelty.
