Making their voices heard: Public hearing Wednesday on Kohler's plans for new golf course

TOWN OF WILSON (AP) — Some local residents are expressing their opposition to the Kohler Co.'s plans to build a golf course just north of the Kohler-Andrae State Park along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Kohler is asking the Town of Wilson in Sheboygan County for a permit to build the 18-hole course on about 250 acres of land the company owns near the Black River.

A couple hundred people crowded into the town hall Wednesday night to listen to Kohler's plans. Sheboygan Press Media says some residents are concerned about the effects on the local water supply, dunes, wetlands and wildlife.

Resident Brett Meyer spoke in favor of the plan and encouraged others to visit Kohler's other courses to see how golf and nature can coexist. The town plan commission took no action on the proposal.
