Identified: 14-year-old boy who drowned this weekend in Menomonee River in Hoyt Park

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials have released the identify of a 14-year-old boy who drowned this weekend after he went swimming in the Menomonee River in Hoyt Park.

The boy is identified as Van Sang Vanmauipial of Milwaukee.

The incident occurred just after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19th. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting that a number of children went swimming in the Menomonee River in Hoyt Park -- and one did not resurface.

Multiple rescue units from the Milwaukee Fire Department and Wauwatosa Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Members of the Milwaukee Fire Department's Dive Team located the child under water a short distance from where he was last observed.

Medical personnel started life-saving measures and the boy was taken to Children's Hospital for medical treatment. The boy had a pulse when taken to the hospital, but he later died.
