Brady Street shut down for repairs, work finished in less than a day

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Crews took to Milwaukee's Brady Street Monday, August 4th, prepared to finish an eight-block project in just 14 hours. The road was torn up and repaved in one day, no thanks to Mother Nature.

Rain put a stop to the work during the afternoon. Those in the area had mixed emotions about the shut down.

"It's a different perspective of the street and of people's daily work lives and it gets rid of a lot of the business traffic and people traffic and vehicles," said Laura Graf.

Service workers along Brady St. saw a dip in sales, and tips, during the project.

"Normally I've got the whole patio full, a couple tables inside. I mean, usually it's very consistent," said Nicky Ulrichson, a server at Jack's.

Work began at 6 a.m. when crews tore up two inches of asphalt

"It's just great seeing it happen. It's a well orchestrated machine going on right here," said Paul Bishoff.

Some even drove long distances to see the fast-paced construction take place.

"We just came down today to check it out and see how they can do this in one day, because we come on Brady all the time," said Mat Lambries from Manitowoc.

Despite a slight set back with the weather, Brady St. was open to traffic right on schedule.
