Host of 2,000+ person party says it was "worth it" despite drug overdoses

HINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WITI) --  20-year-old James Taylor of Mecosta County, Michigan, says a massive rave he hosted was "apparently worth it," despite police saying there were at least six drug overdoes and one sexual assault.

According to FOX 17, Taylor says he successfully threw the largest rave in West Michigan. However, Taylor says it originally started out as a planned birthday party for a friend, but the amount of people quickly crew.

Taylor said that his home got so crowded that people couldn’t move from one room to the other, and the floor boards were shaking from all the extra weight.

Officials say more than 2,000 people showed up and many of them were under age. Officials say there were at least six drug overdoses and the reported sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman.

However, Taylor argues that it's not his responsibility. He told FOX 17 that he's glad police showed up.

“I didn’t force anything down anyone’s throat,” Taylor said. “I didn’t make anyone stay here until 7 a.m. or 11 a.m. or whenever it is that everyone finally left. I didn’t make this kid pass out on my floor. People wanted to be here. That was their decision.”
