Wisconsin State Fair makes a house call for sick kids at Children's Hospital

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- There is plenty of fun to be had and plenty of festivities to participate in at Wisconsin State Fair. While thousands are making their way to West Allis, some are stuck in a less fun place -- the hospital.

On Tuesday, August 5th, the Wisconsin State Fair made a house call, visiting more than 100 kids at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

Kenny Ahern has been performing at the fair for 12 years, and Tuesday he packed up his show and headed north to see some very special kids.

"Incredible rewarding as an entertainer to come and bring smiles to people. They really need to smile," said Ahern. "We are trying to make people have a good time, give them a moment in time where there is no pain, there's no sorrow. And laughter. I think laughter is truly healing."

The sights and sounds of the fair packed the lobby of Children's, including midway games, animals and cream puffs.

"To be here together as a family, because sometimes that's really the hardest things about being in the hospital is that you are not always able to do things as a family, but this kind of allows that to take place," said Lori Gottwein.

The event is made possible through a Wisconsin State Fair partnership with Kohl's.
