MILWAUKEE (WITI) — District 5 officers from the Milwaukee Police Department located and arrested a strong armed robbery suspect a short distance from where he committed the crime.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of W. Capitol Drive at about 11:05 p.m. on August 5th.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman, told police she was walking when the suspect came up to her, threatened to harm her, and grabbed a bag containing her belongings that was hanging around her neck.

The suspect fled and the victim ran to a nearby business where she called police.

Using information about the suspect’s description, officers started searching the area and in less than ten minutes located the suspect in a nearby alley.

The suspect began to run from the officers but they caught him in the 4100 block of N. 21st Street.

The officers found the victim’s bag near the suspect as well as other property belonging to the victim.

The suspect is a 22-year-old Milwaukee man and has a 2011 conviction of carrying a concealed weapon.

MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
