Where is the driver? 35-year-old Milwaukee man killed in hit-and-run near Silver Spring, Lovers Lane

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are looking for the driver who ran over a man -- and left him to die. It happened as the man tried to cross Lovers Lane near Silver Spring Drive shortly after midnight on Wednesday, August 6th.

Police say the 35-year-old Milwaukee man was hit by a car they are describing as a late model maroon or burgundy sedan.

Police say a second car (a Honda Accord) then struck the man -- and the driver of that car (a 21-year-old Milwaukee man) stayed at the scene to help police identify the hit-and-run driver.

"They do drive too fast around here. Especially the construction - people just speed right through it all the time," a neighbor named Wallaceia said.

Wallaceia is studying to be a medical assistant, and says she often walks across Lovers Lane.

"I`ve been living over here for a little over a year. I`ve never heard of anybody getting killed or ran over. It`s a nice neighborhood. That`s why I moved over here," Wallaceia said.

What happened early Wednesday morning brings back bad memories for a worker at the nearby Taco Bell restaurant.

"I was trying to get a bus. I was struck on Highway 100 and Cleveland at that time," the worker, named Craig told FOX6 News.

Knowing the driver in Wednesday morning's incident didn't stop after hitting the man angers those who live and work near where it happened.

"People just don't care about pedestrians," Craig said.

"I hope they catch them. I mean, that's not good -- to have the person still riding around free out here. They should be punished for that," Wallaceia said.

There are a number of businesses near the scene of Wednesday's hit-and-run, but it is unclear whether their cameras captured what happened.

Police continue to look for a late model maroon or burgundy sedan.

If you've seen it, or you have information that may help police in this case, you're asked to contact Milwaukee police.
