"Once you're a Badger, you're always a Badger:" Alums celebrate UW-Madison Day at the State Fair!

WEST ALLIS/MADISON (WITI) -- Madison is less than two hours away from Milwaukee, but for some, the city seems a world away! The Wisconsin State Fair on Wednesday, August 6th celebrated "UW-Madison Day." The leaders of the state's flagship university and the State Fair have developed the annual event in an effort to get the Dairy State to see red.

There was a lot of Badgers red at State Fair Park on Wednesday.

"This is UW-Madison Day at the Wisconsin State Fair!" UW-Madison Marketing Director Tricia Dickinson said.

As an alumna, Pam Oxman fit in just fine!

"Once you're a Badger, you're always a Badger. My license plate has a UW in it. I drive a red car with white pinstripe -- so yeah," Oxman said.

Dickinson says the event is a way to show how the university is helping to improve the lives of those living in the state of Wisconsin.

"Our idea, when we come to the State Fair is to show all the ways we're doing wonderful work and activities around the state of Wisconsin and particularly Milwaukee and this area as well. Our vet school is here. Our doctors are here. Our athletic department is here. Our astro-scientists are here. We have people from across campus who come to share their knowledge and experience with the state of Wisconsin," Dickinson said.

Wednesday's UW-Madison Day at the State Fair also featured a pep rally with the UW Band and cheerleaders. That had plenty of folks looking forward to the start of Badgers football season.

The Badgers play their first game on August 30th, vs. LSU.

The first home game is September 6th, vs. Western Illinois.
