Serious crash in Mount Pleasant: Flight for Life transports man to hospital after two-vehicle crash

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- The Mt. Pleasant Police Department responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on westbound STH 20 around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 6th.

The incident occurred between International Dr. and East Frontage Road.

The initial investigation into the crash revealed that the driver of an SUV rear ended a heavy (asphalt) truck that was slowing down due to traffic being back up from East Frontage Road. The SUV was totaled.

The driver of the SUV, a 59-year-old man from Burlington, sustained severe injuries to the lower portion of his body. Officials say he was conscious at the scene.

The driver of the heavy truck was not injured.

As a result of the serious injuries the driver of the SUV sustained, Flight for Life was contacted.

Officers from Sturtevant and Caledonia Police Departments assisted with block EB traffic while the Flight for Life helicopter was on scene.

The driver was then flown to a Milwaukee hospital for treatment.

Officials say the man's injuries were severe, however they are not expected to be life-threatening.

Mt. Pleasant officers with the assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the crash.

At this time, alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a role in this collision.

The driver of the SUV will be issued a citation for inattentive driving.
