They awoke in the middle of the night to find a naked man in their home

FOND DU LAC (WITI) -- Fond du Lac police are again asking residents to be sure their homes are secure -- after another home invasion has occurred in the city. This, as Fond du Lac police announce a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with three home invasions.

Police say on Friday, August 8th, just before 2:00 p.m., they became aware of a home entry that occurred in the 400 block of Greenbriar Avenue in the city of Fond du Lac.

Police say the incident took place around 3:00 a.m.

The homeowners awoke to find an unknown person inside their residence.

The description given of the person was similar to the description given in the home entry reported on July 23rd.

In the July 23rd incident -- police say a homeowner in the area of Dewberry Drive and Primrose Lane was awakened by the barking of their dog -- only to find that a naked man was in the hallway of their residence.

Police say the male homeowner chased the intruder for a short distance, but lost sight of him.

Police say the description of the suspect and the location of that incident are similar to an incident reported back on June 24th.

In that incident, police say around 3:15 a.m., a homeowner was in the kitchen of her home when she heard someone open and shut the front door of her home. Police say the homeowner went outside -- and as she walked around her car, she saw a naked man.

Police haven't said for sure whether the intruder in the latest incident was naked -- but police say a suspect arrested in connection with these home invasions told them he entered three homes while nude.

Friday's incident is the third reported incident of this type for this neighborhood in recent weeks.

After Friday's incident, the Fond du Lac Police Department is again reminding residents to lock their doors and windows.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, August 10th, Fond du Lac police said they have a man in custody in connection with these three home invasions -- and they are looking into whether the suspect may be connected to a fourth incident not previously reported.

Police say a 26-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the three home invasions reported in Fond du Lac on Saturday, August 9th.

Police say they are investigating this suspect's involvement in a fourth incident that hadn't been reported because the homeowners apparently didn't realize that he had been in their home.

Police say during an interview with the 26-year-old suspect -- he admitted to being responsible for each of the home invasion incidents.

Additionally, police say the man admitted he had entered three of the four homes while naked. He also admitted to touching an adult female while she slept in one of the incidents.

"He admitted to entering three homes while being nude, and he did touch one adult female while she was sleeping. That's when she woke up," Fond du Lac Police Lt. Andy Gill said.

Police say the man was able to enter all four of the homes through unlocked doors.

The 26-year-old man has been arrested for burglary, attempted second degree sexual assault and lewd/lascivious behavior.

He is being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail.

"I do not know his motivation, but investigators are determining that," Lt. Gill said.

Lt. Gill won't say what led police to the suspect -- only saying the community played a big part.

"We do work well with our community and they were able to assist in our investigation," Lt. Gill said.

Fond du Lac Police Chief William Lamb issued the following statement:

“I would like to thank the residents of the community, particularly those in the neighborhood where these home invasions had been occurring, for their cooperation and support as we investigated this troubling series of incidents. While we strongly encourage vigilance in personal safety and protective behaviors at all times, we are obviously relieved that the suspect responsible for these acts has been apprehended. Of course, that relief is undoubtedly shared by the residents of that neighborhood and for the families that were involved. Additionally, I would like to commend City of Fond du Lac Police Department Lead Detective Steve Kaufman for the diligence and outstanding investigative work that has ultimately led to this arrest.”
