Scare near Waukesha Memorial Hospital Monday leads to brief lockdown

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Waukesha police say a man inside a home near Waukesha Memorial Hospital on Monday, August 11th was thought to have a gun -- and prompted a police response.

A Waukesha Memorial Hospital spokeswoman tells FOX6 News the hospital was briefly placed on lockdown -- after police were called out to the home near the hospital around 5:00 p.m.

Police say the man, who was thought to have a gun, has been suicidal in the past.

The man did not have any hostages, but there were others inside the home at the time police were called out. These people were not held against their will.

Police say the man was taken into custody -- but he wasn't arrested. Instead, he was taken into "protective placement" due to the fact that he had been suicidal in the past.

Police were encouraging people going to the hospital to use the south Washington Street entrance while this was going on.

A Waukesha Memorial Hospital spokeswoman says there was no risk for hospital staff or patients due to the police situation taking place near the hospital grounds.
