What sparked fire at apartment near 1st and Layton Thursday?

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Investigators are looking into what sparked an apartment fire on Thursday afternoon, August 14th in Milwaukee.

It happened near 1st and Layton -- and we're told the fire broke out in a third-floor apartment.

Fire officials say there were no working smoke detectors in the apartment.

Milwaukee Fire officials tell FOX6 News no one was hurt.

We're told those who live in the apartment where the fire broke out were displaced, and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Fire officials say this blaze caused $124,000 in damage to the building, and $5,200 in damage to the apartment's contents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
