"We haven't been as aggressive as we need to be:" 12 acres for lease in Milwaukee, developers needed!

MILWAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- 12 acres up for lease in Milwaukee -- and Milwaukee County leaders are using technology in an effort to attract developers.

The Milwaukee Regional Business Park has sat partially vacant for the last three years. Inside, you'll find a furnished kitchen, office space and even an airplane hangar!

It's prime real estate: 12 acres formerly used by the 440th Airlift Wing of the Air Force Reserve.

"I think it is under-used and we haven`t been as aggressive as we need to be," Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said.

Abele and other county leaders hope to develop the land -- and they are looking for developers.

"We`ve re-done College Ave.  We`ve re-done 94.  Billions have been spent around infrastructure.  It`s primed for that," Abele said.

Something that could be appealing for potential developers: the land is close to Mitchell International Airport.

County officials have launched a website: MKERegionalBusinessPark.com -- which features detailed listing information and photos of properties available for lease. County leaders are hopeful the website will be helpful for firms looking at adding space.

"It`s just about being more proactive in marketing what we do have.  It`s pretty impressive," Abele said.

"Chamber of Commerce members hope a buyer or buyers will take advantage of the dynamic facilities here," Steve Baas, with the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce said.

"We`re really not picky or choosey in terms of how many businesses would locate here.  What we really want in our sweet spot here in the region are businesses that make something here, produce something here and market and sell it all over the world,"

That could, in turn, create jobs and give the region a big economic boost.

"It was sad to lose the 440th, but to have an opportunity like this to take land and develop it into something great for our economy is a wonderful chance for the Milwaukee region,"
