Milwaukee's Veterans Day Parade SAVED thanks to a generous donation

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Veterans Day Parade of Milwaukee has announced that TransCanada Corporation is the presenting sponsor for the 2014 Veterans Day Parade and Day of Honor with a contribution of $20,000.

For almost 10 years, the Veterans Day Parade of Milwaukee has sponsored and organized the annual Veterans Day Parade and Day of Honor in downtown Milwaukee, growing larger each year with more veterans and military participating.

Unfortunately, earlier this year, the parade lost some significant sponsors and was in jeopardy of being cancelled.

Veterans Day Parade officials say it is thanks to FOX6 News coverage of this year’s circumstances, that the Parade and Day of Honor will continue this November with the help of TransCanada.

The 51st annual Veterans Day Parade and Day of Honor will take place on Saturday, November 8th, at 11:00 a.m. in downtown Milwaukee.  Special guests of honor are the military chaplains. The honor of Grand Marshall will be shared by seven military chaplains.

TransCanada says it has worked hard over the past 60 years to earn and maintain the trust of community neighbors and uphold a reputation as a leader in the safe, reliable and responsible operation of North American energy infrastructure. Investing in the communities where employees live and work is fundamental to TransCanada’s corporate social responsibility objectives.

That's why when an employee saw the news story about the Veterans Day Parade, and its critical financial situation, TransCanada stepped in to help, said Matt Stubbs, an Area Manager with TransCanada.

“This event is important to the people of Milwaukee and especially meaningful to the families of active duty military and veterans.” said Stubbs. “At TransCanada, we are proud to support our veterans, and we recruit veterans to enter into our workforce through the Helmets to Hardhats program.  Supporting these activities made sense.”

Milwaukee Veterans Day Parade officials say: "We are very grateful and honored to have TransCanada Corporation as our presenting sponsor for 2014.  The Board of Directors and volunteers of the Veterans Day Parade and Day of Honor would also like to thank all who have donated for their generosity and support of our veterans, including Harley-Davidson Motor Company, DRS Technologies, and many generous citizens who also made financial contributions.  In addition to the public news coverage of the financial peril the organization faces, a Go-Fund Me campaign was started, which has allowed us to reach our goal and stabilize the event through 2015."
