Thousands to be donated to 12-year-old stabbing victim's family after Madison fundraiser

MADISON (WITI) -- Folks in Madison this weekend stepped up to help a 12-year-old girl stabbed by two of her "friends" in Waukesha this spring, and left in the woods to die.

A fundraiser was held at Metcalfe's Market on Madison's west side on Friday, August 29th, and that event raised over $50,000 for the little girl.

The "Mini Brat Fest" -- produced by Metcalfe's Market, presented by Johnsonville and in cooperation with Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek was held from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday.

The event was a fundraiser for the 12-year-old girl stabbed 19 times on May 31st by two 12-year-old girls who were supposedly, her "friends." The girls allegedly believed if they killed her, they would meet the fictional online character "Slenderman."

The girls have been charged as adults in the case -- each facing a first degree intentional homicide charge.

The 12-year-old stabbing victim's family faces mounting medical bills -- and all proceeds from Friday's event will go to the family to help with those bills.

Other numbers in from Friday's event are as follows:

Tim Metcalfe, with Metcalfe's Market issued the following statement on his Facebook page:

"Thank you all, those that donated their time, our sponsors that donated their resources and products, and most of all to the Madison community that showed up and gave so much, raising over $50,000 in support of this special child and her family. I know that they are so so humbled by what just happened in Madison and are ever so grateful.
On behalf of everyone involved in the Mini Brat Fest and Heart for Healing campaign, thank you so very much Madison. The world we live in changed ever so slightly yesterday because of what you all did to make a difference in the lives of this family. Thank you all."
