(CNN) — We’re constantly reminded of the dangers of texting and driving, yet many of us do it anyway. A Colorado woman is lucky to be alive after she was in a serious accident while texting.
“My daughter had text me and said she needed me to bring her saxophone to school,” Christina Jahnz said.
Jahnz says she figured out a way to swing by her daughter’s school, but she was running late for a meeting, so she wanted to give a friend a head’s up.
“I did the voice text and I was in the parking lot. I looked down to make sure it was okay,” Jahnz said.
It happened in just a split second.
“The next thing I knew, I was looking up. There was white powder from the air bags deployed,” Jahnz said.
Jahnz had slammed into a guardrail pole. The pole went through the front light of her truck — piercing her in the buttocks and continuing through the seat behind her.
“They had to cut up there, and they had to cut behind me because the pipe went through my seat. I could feel it — the vibrations and stuff,” Jahnz said.
Firefighters were able to get Jahnz out of the car, and she was rushed to Parker Adventist Hospital — where she underwent emergency surgery.
“I’m truly a miracle, they said. If it had gone just a little bit the other way, I would have bled out,” Jahnz said.
It’s a miracle for sure — but also, a startling reminder of what can happen when you’re distracted while driving.
“Devastating – knowing I could have prevented it to begin with.
