Yum! Angelica shows us how to prepare chicken gyros

In this week's Dining with Duria, Angelica shows us how to prepare chicken gyros.


For chicken marinade:

  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • Juice of 1 lemon (2-3 tbsp)
  • 2 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 heaping tbsp plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 ¼ lbs. boneless, skinless chicken breasts

For Tzatziki sauce:

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 regular cucumber, peeled and seeded
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp white wine vinegar
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • Drizzle of extra virgin olive oil

For the sandwich:

  • Pita bread
  • Fresh tomatoes, sliced thin
  • Red onion, sliced thin


  1. To prepare the chicken, combine garlic, lemon juice, red wine vinegar, olive oil, yogurt, oregano and salt & pepper to taste in a medium bowl.  Whisk together until mixed well.  Add the chicken to the bowl and mix well to coat.  Cover and refrigerate for about an hour.
  2. To prepare the sauce, shred the cucumber or chop in food processor.  Wrap in towel and squeeze to remove as much water as possible.  Mix together the yogurt, shredded cucumber, garlic, white wine vinegar, lemon juice and salt & pepper to taste.  Drizzle lightly with olive oil.  Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to mold.
  3. Cook the chicken as desired, either in a skillet or in the oven.  Once the chicken is completely cooked through, transfer to a place and cut into strips.  Serve chicken on pita bread and top with tzatziki sauced, sliced tomatoes and onions.
