Wisconsin deer archery season opens this month

MADISON (AP) — Here's a sure sign of fall. Wisconsin's deer archery and crossbow seasons are set to get underway later this month.

The seasons are scheduled to begin on Sept. 13. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources biologists say hunters should see more deer in the southern farmland areas than in the northern and central forests, where the population is down.

More than 266,000 archery hunters killed nearly 88,000 deer last year. That compares with 263,000 hunters taking 94,000 deer in 2012.
