Police take three into custody, two wanted for attempted homicide, following standoff

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Police arrested two men on Wednesday, September 10th following a tactical situation on the city's south side.

It began with an officer investigating a stolen vehicle on S. 5th Place near Arthur Avenue.

That's when the officer recognized a known suspect.

"One cop came up, looked at the car, started it, said it was a stolen vehicle, and all of a sudden there's plenty of cops here," neighbor Nick Dembrowski said.

Police say the known suspect made eye contact with the officer, and fled -- barricading himself in a residence.

Police blocked streets, and MPD's tactical unit was deployed. Neighbors watched as an officer in the armored vehicle aimed a rifle at a home.

Police say two suspect holed up in the home were wanted for attempted homicide.

"As soon as I came here, I see all kinds of police officers with all kids of guns, police dogs, different squad cars," neighbor Jabir Agurre said.

Three hours later, the tactical situation ended peacefully. Police were able to take the two men into custody, along with a woman who was in the home.

"Through the work of our crisis negotiators, they were able to get the two subjects that we were looking for to surrender.  Also in the house was a female we believe to be the girlfriend of one of our subjects, so we've got a peaceful solution to this," an MPD official said.

Police say the men arrested Wednesday are accused of firing shots into a home on West Greenfield on August 21st. Four people were in that home at the time, including a child.
