Eliminating obstacles: One Milwaukee business holds blood drive at work

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- There are several things that can get in the way of donating blood -- and a lack of time is one of them. One Milwaukee business eliminated that obstacle by holding a drive right at work.

"It doesn't even hurt! I've had kids -- I've felt pain," Laurel Market said.

Marek was in good spirits, even mid-donation. Part of the reason is because she knows how important donating blood to the Red Cross can be.

"I used to be an ICU nurse, and I remember how many lives were saved with blood transfusions," Marek said.

Schlitz Park holds a Red Cross blood drive three times a year for the 30 businesses that call the campus home.

"We want to make it easier for the employees to do it right here when they work. At 20 minute intervals, they can just leave work and donate blood," Suzy Pitzo, Tenant Relations Manager for Schlitz Park Campus said.

All in all, the Red Cross will get at least 35 units of blood in this one day from this drive, which will help over 100 patients.

"I know there's always a need for blood and working as a nurse in the community, I know there is never a bad time to donate blood," Marek said.
