Six weeks ahead of Nov. 4th, on National Voter Registration Day, group reaches out to voters

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Tuesday, September 23rd is National Voter Registration Day.

With six weeks left ahead of the November 4th election, a group in Milwaukee worked on National Voter Registration Day to get voters registered, and to update their voter information in cases where there have been changes since the last election.

This group says it's important that voters get registered ahead of election day -- especially since the voter ID law has been reinstated, which could slow things down a bit at the polls.

"We are going to be knocking on doors, talking to people to see if they needed help registering. If they're new voters, if they've moved,  if they've changed their name or if they haven't voted in the last four years -- this is going to be extremely important because we know with the new voter ID requirements there is the potential for bottleneck to occur during the elections," Christine Neumann-Ortiz with Voces de la Frontera said.

This group went into three different neighborhoods in Milwaukee on Tuesday -- working to get folks registered to vote.
