West Allis police: Six in custody following attempted vehicle thefts and a pursuit

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- West Allis police say six people are in custody -- one of them a teenager and the remainder juveniles following reported attempted vehicle thefts and a pursuit occurring Wednesday, September 24th.

Police say just before noon on Wednesday, they received reports of several attempted motor vehicle thefts occurring within the city.

Around 12:30 p.m., police received an additional report of suspicious activity occurring in the 8500 block of W. Lincoln Avenue. A vehicle was reported to have fled from the area.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of S. 96th Street and W. Burnham Street. Police say the vehicle stopped, but the occupants fled on foot -- some fleeing across railroad tracks, and across I-894.

Police worked with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office to locate and apprehend the individuals -- including a 17-year-old boy, three male juveniles and two female juveniles -- all of Milwaukee.

Police say these six individuals are suspected to be involved in motor vehicle thefts and attempted motor vehicle thefts.

Two stolen vehicles have been recovered by police.

Police say this is an active and ongoing investigation.
