CELL PHONE VIDEO: Shot fired in grocery store parking lot near Horlick High School
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police on Friday, September 26th responded to calls for a large group fighting in the parking lot of 2210 Rapids Dr, directly across the street from Horlick High School.
Further reports were received that at least one shot was fired.
Horlick was placed on lock down. Officials say early release was already planned for the day and that early release was moved up to 11:10 a.m.
As of this time, police say they have not located any victims from the shots fired.
No suspects are in custody at this time.
This incident remains under investigation.
No one was injured in this fight, but it's enough for one family to think twice about sending their kids back on Monday morning.
In a cell phone video captured at the scene of the incident, dozens of kids circle around a fight. No one knows why or how the fight started -- but it ended with a gun shot.
The cell phone video has been passed around among students at Horlick High School. After seeing the video for themselves, parents shared it with FOX6 News and talked about the fear they had with their daughter on lock down inside the school.
"I got really scared to know that somebody was outside my school with a gun and it actually happened. I didn't know what to think, I was freaking out," said a student at Horlick High School.
This student, who doesn't want to be identified, immediately sent a text to her mom.
"You just don't know what's going on, you know that there's gun fire, everything is speculation until they find the truth," said one mother.
Police tell FOX6 News anywhere from 75 to 200 kids were involved in the fight.
"We don't know if all the people involved are students. There was lunch hour at that time so several of the people are believed to be students at the time," said Jessie Motoyer, from the Racine Police Department.
The cause of the fight is unknown, there is speculation -- some are saying drugs. Others say it was a week-long argument between two rival schools who were supposed to hit the football field tonight.
The football game is on for tonight, but there will be increased security.
